We are very pleased with our new facility and considering the tight restraints of the site, there has been no sacrifice in the quality of the completed building.
Mike Rayner, Managing Director of Big Box Storage Centres
Sited in Portslade, Hove, this project involved construction of a 9,000sq ft steel frame extension to the existing self storage building.
In recent years, the team has worked closely with Big Box Self Storage to help construct six of their ten sites across the UK. This firm working relationship has been established on trust and successful delivery of high-quality storage units.
Project Challenges
Among the project challenges was a requirement for piling whilst working in the live environment of a busy storage unit site. The project was carefully planned to compress the construction period and minimise business disruption.
A very carefully detailed steel frame was designed to fit the unusual shape of the site following many days of detailed site surveys. The steel frame sat on traditional ground bearing foundations and we installed a high floor slab constructed in stages to permit the ongoing operation of the business.
We optimised off-site fabrication and manufacturing whenever possible and worked on a 7-day shift pattern. This ensured a swift turnaround of only 4 months, including complete re-surfacing of the existing concrete service yard.
